Merson, who believes Jamie Vardy has proven why.
The Blues’ star winger is back to his best form this
season at Stamford Bridge, having struggled last
term as Chelsea flopped in the Premier League.
But Antonio Conte’s arrival has reinvigorated the
25-year-old, who has eight goals so far in all
competitions.
Hazard missed out on a nomination at Chelsea for
the coveted accolade in 2016 , despite being named
the PFA Player of the Year two seasons ago.

And Merson has warned the Belgium international
he must seek a move abroad if he has future
ambitions to be crowned Europe’s best.
“Eden Hazard is the only player in the Premier
League who has a chance of being a Ballon d’Or
winner,” Merson wrote in his column for the Daily
Star.
“But you can almost guarantee the next three or
four will be shared between Cristiano Ronaldo and
Lionel Messi whatever anyone else does.
